Vantage Trading Partners as part of its drive towards delivering sustainable energy to the world of utilities and shipping has embarked on a journey to invest and participate in the renewables and bio-fuels sector. In Malaysia, landfills posing serious environmental threats have been earmarked to be transformed into a sustainable energy source.
Waste to energy plants strategically placed at identified landfills in the country has been mandated to eliminate waste and at the same time, provide electricity to nearby grids via a FIT program with the national utility company, Tenaga Nasional Berhad. Current locations are in the Northern State of Perlis as well as the southernmost state of Johore in the Peninsular of Malaysia.
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is also playing a part in ensuring de-carbonization in the worlds trade by implementing low Sulphur regulations for marine fuels utilized in shipping and marine operations. Vantage, working with our Indonesian counterparts are looking to set up, a first in the world bio-methanol plant in South East Asia.
The fuel will be used by International shipping companies, replacing hydrocarbon based fuel, to power transportation vessels between trade routes of the East and the West with close to zero carbon emissions. The bio-methanol, derived from waste woods, decaying forest and vegetation produces the same amount of energy as conventional fuel.
This will completely change the landscape on energy consumption as well as the stigma on the shipping industry as being one of the highest contributors of carbon footprints and Vantage will be in the fore of enabling this along with its strategic partners.
